Tsepelovo village, Zagori area of Ioannina prefecture

The picturesque village of Tsepelovo (central Zagori area), is built at an altitude of 1100 meters. It is 51 km from Ioannina, the capital of Epirus region. Tsepelovo is the most beautiful village of Zagori, with cobblestone pavements, mansion-houses, traditional small coffee shops, taverns and stone-built bridges.

During the period of Ottoman occupation the village was the administrative centre of Zagori region. It is the biggest village of Zagori area. Tsepelovo has excellent tourist infrastructure. Marika Kotopouli, a very important Greek actress, was born in Tsepelovo. The grave of the poet Vilaras and the monastery of Rogovo are also situated here. In the square of the village there is the stone-built church of Agios Nikolaos (St. Nikolas), with the astonishing murals of painters from Kapesovo (1786) and the amazing stone-built belfry (1868).
